Aurora specialises in facial recognition systems using advanced biometric software. As the UK’s leading provider of such products, the company currently has more installed sites than all other UK companies combined.

The product range covers two  main areas:

  Verification:

Facial verification products perform a ‘one to one’ check – i.e. ensure that the person presenting themselves to the system is in fact the person that they say they are. Using facial biometrics provides an added, more accurate level of verification than such systems as an ID card (which can be lost or stolen) or a pin number (which can be forgotten or used fraudulently).

Aurora’s 2D verification product ‘ClockFace’ has been in commercial use now for over five years. It is used in a variety of industries for verifying time and attendance; and for access control. It can also be linked in with timekeeping and payroll systems, using Aurora’s TimeKeeper software.

Facial Identification products help to undertake ‘one to many’ matches – ie help to answer the question ‘who is this person’? Aurora’s ‘eGallery’ product allows a facial image to be checked against a database of known images. Within seconds, the system displays the closest matches found for the target image being sought, even if the database contains hundreds of thousands of images.

The system has been optimised for use by police and security organisations, but also has applications in industries such as gaming and leisure and shopping centres, where there are known problems such as organised gangs of shoplifters.

‘eGallery’ is a web-enabled system, making use of the internet and utilising web browsers accessing a central server. As such it is not affected by the location of the database and can be accessed by as many users as a force authorises.
