eGallery uses sophisticated facial recognition technology to
allow police staff to compare a facial image with a database of
stored faces. This will invariably be the custody database, often
containing hundreds of thousands of images.
eGallery is currently proving to be a powerful investigative
tool. It is assisting investigations by allowing a search of a
custody database for an unidentified suspect. The source of the
image of the suspect can be from CCTV, shop video, surveillance
photograph, e-fit/cd-fit or even mobile phone.
eGallery is web-enabled and can therefore be used across a
force intranet. Users are not restricted by the location of the
database and can, as such, use the system from wherever the force
decides.
